2011-2012 Portuguese Superliga Season Review

Despite loosing their manager Andre Villas-Boas and striker Radamel Falcao, FC Porto still dominated the the Portuguese Superliga in 2011-2012 and actually came one game short of a league record of 56 games, unbeaten when they lost at Gil Vicente in January. Porto was lead by the leagues top two prospects in 2011-2012 in Brazilian Hulk and Colombian James Rodriguez. SL Benfica finished second led by the league top goal scorer Oscar Cardozo and Nelson Oliveira, who made such a debut that he earned a spot on Portugal Euro 2012 squad, despite playing only 396 minutes during the season.

2011-2012 Polish Ekstraklasa Season Review

Slask Wroclaw won its first Polish title in 35 years playing out of Wroclaw Stadium one of the newly built stadiums for Euro 2012. Slask won the title on the final weekend by one point over Ruch Chorzow who unlike many teams in the Polish Ekstraklasa have not benafited from the Euro 2012 and play in a stadium with a 10,000 capacity. It will be interesting to see how this new infrastructure will effect the league and will there be a bigger financial split between clubs. Although despite also been given a new stadium Lach Poznon still decided to sell the leagues best player over the summer Latvian Artjoms Rudnevs who joined German Bundesliga side Hamburger SV for €3.5M

2011-2012 Italian Serie B Season Review

It was a turmoil year for the Italian Serie B in 2011-2012, prosacution over a match fixing scandel including suspension of many well known players and the tragic on pitch death of Livorno's Piermario Morosini made stories off the pitch overshadow a rather exciting season on. One issue Serie B struggles with is the financial viability of its clubs where teams exclusively rely on selling players or bringing players in on loan to survive. 2011-2012 was no different as only a few standout players on Serie B clubs will remain on the clubs books in 2012-2013, Champions Pescera is a good example despite promotion to Serie A through a great core of exciting young players have only been able to hold on to Marco Capuano.

2011-2012 Italian Serie A Season Review

There was some irony with Juventus winning the scudetto in 2011-2012, thier first since being relegated to Serie B in 2006 over the Calciopoli scandel, as current Manager Antonio Conte might be suspended over a current match-fixing scandal well he was Manager at Siena. Despite the these troubles Juventus played exceptional on the pitch going undefeated, the first time for a Serie A club since AC Milan did it in 1991-1992. SSC Napoli looks to be the team to challange Juventus despite selling Ezequiel Lavezzi they are still led by Edinson Cavani and Marek Hamsik well the Milan clubs both traditional title contenders struggled in 2011-2012 and may continue as AC Milan have sold their top players in Silva and leading goal scorer Ibrahimoivc, well Inter are still in a transition period.

2011-2012 Israeli Ligat Ha'Al Season Review

The Ha'Al league has had many players being sold to larger clubs across Europe including Itay Shechter, Eran Zahavi, Gil Vermouth, Lior Refaelov, Biram Kayal, Emmanuel Mayuka, Bibras Natko, and Samual Yeboah. This has allowed new players to shine but has also made the league more competitve and in 2011-2012 Hapoel Ironi Kiryat took advantage of this winning thier first ever league title. Going in to the 2012-2013 season clubs have actualy chosen to hold on to their talent so it will be interesting to see if Hapoel Ironi Kiryat can win again holding off much more fancy clubs such as Hapoel Tel Aviv and Maccabi Haifa.

2011-2012 Hungarian NB1 Season Review

After a disappointing season in 2010-2011, Debrecen won its 6th title in eight seasons by going undefeated in 2011-2012. Debrecen was led by 30 year old French striker Adamo Coulibaly, who scored a league leading 20 goals but the team also included local prospects in Adam Bodi and Jozsef Varga, who are also now playing with the Hungarian National Team. Second in goals was 24 year old Nemanja Nikolic born in Serbia but looks like to be a key player for Hungary and may gather some interest from larger clubs across Europe.

2011-2012 Greece Super League Season Review

In a story of life imitating sport the financial trouble in the country of Greece was also reflected in the Greece Super League with two clubs prior to the season being relegated due to match fixing and clubs including Panathinaikos and AEK Athens not being able to pay player wages. On the field Olympiakos won their 31st championship lead by Belgian winger Kevin Mirallas and should be heavy favorites in 2012-213 as he will be joined by Kostas Mitroglou who scored 16 goals last season on loan with Atormitos.
